Chevrolet HHR -

The Chevrolet HHR (for Heritage High Roof) is a retro-look compact crossover SUV launched by the Chevrolet division of General Motors at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show as a 2006 model. Designed to slot below the Equinox, it shares the GM Delta platform with the Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5 and Saturn ION. It is visually similar to the Chrysler PT Cruiser, though a bit larger. It jointly replaced the Tracker as Chevrolet's smallest SUV.
The design of the HHR has been cred to Brian Nesbitt, who was a former designer at Chrysler, where he was the lead designer of the PT Cruiser. Nesbitt was recruited by GM to join its design staff, and served for a time as the chief designer of the Chevrolet brand.
The HHR is assembled in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico and is available for sale throughout North America. The 2007 HHR is also available in Japan. [1]
The vehicle's design is inspired by the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban with large, square fender flares and a hemispherical grille. GM hopes to sell 60,000 per year (first year sales exceeded 93,000 through June 2006), with pricing starting at US$16,990- $25,000, depending on the model (LS, LT, 2LT). The HHR in LT trim comes equipped with a standard MP3-capable radio and power driver's seat. It has a large cargo-carrying capacity for a car of its size, with a flat-load floor and fold-flat front passenger seat.According to Motor Trend magazine (September 2006 issue), General Motors will build a SS version of the HHR for the 2008 model year. The engine will most likely be the same 260 hp, 2.0 L turbocharged I4 that will be in the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Red Line. The HHR SS will be similar to the turbocharged Cobalt SS that replaces the supercharged Cobalt SS. Both the turbocharged Cobalt SS and HHR SS will be 2008 models.LS/LT — 2.2&# L Ecotec I4, 143&# hp (107&# kW)
