The hood and fenders featured aggressive folds, in contrast to the soft box of the other GMT800 models.
2003 models featured darker cladding, but GM's new president, Rick Wagoner, demanded deletion of this unpopular trim (as did certain elements of the public). From mid-year, Avalanche could be ordered without the cladding. |

The Cobalt, much like the Cavalier before it, is one of GM's best-selling vehicles. While sales did dip in late 2006, many cite lower gasoline prices as a result, thus allowing consumers to buy SUV's instead of compact cars. Nevertheless, the vehicle remains popular, especially in the Youngstown, Ohio area[citation needed] where the Lordstown plant is located as well as in the Pittsburgh area nearby where the Cobalt (much like the Cavalier before it) is the best-selling vehicle overall in the region. |
